Hi junecpg and thanks for your post.
Just to clarify, you are looking for a clinic just for emergencies? If this is the case the things to look for in an emergency only clinic are different from the things to look for in an everyday clinic.

In an emergency clinic you should be looking for the following qualities:
-excellent after hours services with several specialist staff members available on short notice
-excellent facilities. In an emergency having the top of the line equipment could be the difference between life and death if your animal is severely ill or injured
-an animal ambulance or mobile clinic if possible. This may or may not be available in your area
-dedicated friendly staff. This is a quality you want in any vet clinic. You can often gauge the friendliness of the staff and the environment just by popping into the clinic and having a chat with the receptionists even just while you buy some dog food or something similar.

I hope this helps. All the best,
