Two dogs at the same time on leash

Hi

Just to say thank you for your wonderful tips I am from South Africa and is still waiting to receive your cd on obedience training. Can't wait.

I am busy leash training my two ridgebacks Lyda and Ramba (7 months old). They are fine if I only take one at a time the other dog will also walk beside me and copy the dog on leash. They never keep me out of site and if I start walking they will follow me immediately. My problem is how can I train them to both be on a leash at the same time. I would love to go on long walks with them.
If I take one dog the other one will howls to get out they are always together and so attached to one another. They are food motivated.
Please help?

Glad to hear you are enjoying your training secrets manual so far. The trick to walking to dogs on leashes at once is to teach both dogs to heel and have them both doing this every time they are on the leash. The instructions for heel are outlined in the dog training secrets manual but should also be on the cd you are awaiting. It sounds like both your dogs are quite well behaved in general so I don't think you will have much of a problem teaching them both to walk nicely beside you. Also there are little devices that you can buy online or at your local pet store which you can clip two dogs onto and which stops them getting tangled together, it will let you clip both dog on but you only have to hold one leash. It is useful if you would like both your dogs to walk beside you on the same side for example away from the roadside.
