Hi my name is Penny and I have a six year old rottweiler girl "Terra" that used to be able to jump 5/6 feet into the air, I had to go away for a week and left her in some kennels and when i picked her up she couldnt walk properly I have since found out she as herniation of the disc at t10, i now have to stop her from jumping (which she has been doing for 5 yrs or so)she is in a run at the side of the house and i cant always get out to her before she starts jumping. she jumps up when poeple or dogs go by, i kennel her at the busy times. but i need to stop her jumping before she hurts her back and cant walk. can you please help

It has been over a week and I am still wanting to hear from someone about my problem with Terra can someone please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the long delay in replying i have been overseas for 2 weeks and haven't been able to get any work done.

I am sorry to here that she has a problem with her back and i will try to help you with her problem.

Firstly i think it may be a good idea to move her kennel to an area of the yard or house where she can't see out onto the road or to an area which may cause her to get excited.

It may be best to put her in the cage where you can see her when you are home and get some training done. And when you leave keep her away so she doesn't get excited.

The other important thing if you can't move her away from the fence then place some material over the walls facing out so she can't see and get jumpy.

Now when you do catch her jumping up she needs to be told off straight away. USe a loud GRRRRR or AHHHHH as well as a squirt with a water pistol the second she starts jumping. You may need to hide out so you can catch her in the act. After you have told her off ask her to sit and if she follows the command praise her with attention and petting.

When she is out and tries to jump up on you turn away and completely ignore her. This means not looking, talking or touching her. The second she puts all four feet on the ground turn and praise her.
