Unhappy Not a friendly neighbor

My coonhound mix, Maggie Mae age 2, barks aggressively at anyone walking by. As we live in the country, it's a nice road for walking, biking, taking little ones out in the stroller. She barks aggressively - fur stands up on back. It is SCAREY! There is a couple that walk with their golden retriever who we know well. When he turns to walk towards Maggie, she turns tail between her legs and runs crying to the door. He is a friendly guy. So, you see, she is a coward. We do not let her "roam" but there are times when she slips out the door, i.e. grandkids are running in and out, etc.
She will NOT come when called and there is no way we can catch her during these episodes. If anything, she becomes more aggressive towards whoever.
WHAT DO WE DO??? Not only is it scarey, it is embarrassing.
It is the only aggression she shows.
