Hello, I am new to the forum and want to say that it is great. I have a 10 month American Pit Bull who is very good. Hopefully he continues to be. Our problem is when we leave him alone he will usually find something to chew up, mainly shoes. I've told my wife and daughter to put the shoes in the room and close the door. But that, to me, is not solving the problem(temporary fix). The times he can't find shoes he will chew the wood trim on walls or the front door. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens. We provide some toys for him but he gets bored of them. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Try getting him a big bone and only giving him it when you are going out or stuff a Kong with meat paste or something similar. These things should keep him amused for a good while

My dog Maggie did the same thing starting around 7 months of age. She chewed the corner of my mattress off of my bed! I had not used a crate or kennel up to that point. That day, I purchased a kennel for her. I was amazed that she LOVED it. Now all I have to say is "go to your kennel, I have to go" and she goes right in. I think she got so anxious when I was not home that she prefers the kennel and can relax in it. I notice that when I come home and let her out, she isn't "wild" at all, no jumping on me, or anything...just matter of fact. I only use the kennel for times when I am out, she sleeps with us at night. You may want to consider that.

Another thought if you don't get a kennel--leave a radio or television on to make "noise" in the house when you leave. I think that makes them feel better.

Seeing that you are from US, FYI: Walmart sells Petmate Kennels in the Large size for less than $60. That's where I got ours and its held up nicely.
