Chasing my car as I leave for work

I have an American Pit Bull/Labrador mix that we rescued about a year ago. He was a small puppy when we found him, so we don't know his actual age. Just started the training here and finding lots of answers to some issues EXCEPT-We need him not to chase our car when we leave for work in the morning. We live on a farm and can't really lock him up all day, so we want him to stop chasing us all the way to the main road. It seems like a game to him (he's racing us) and we have tried stopping and putting him in the car and taking him back home, we tried using a shock collar when he starts to chase (he learned the range and runs outside of it) and can't seem to find any real "cure". Please Help!!

I think first of all that you need to confine your dog to a fenced in area, you don't have to tie him up but it would be safer for him if he could not get out onto the road where potentially he could be hit by a car? Or roam too far from home.
I then think you need to get someone to help train the dog, they need to stand with the dog on a lead and you need to drive out of the driveway. If the dog lunges in an attempt to chase they are to tug the lead sharply and say "NO" and then if your dog calms down they are to reward the dog with praise and treats. Repeat this over and over again until he does not react to you leaving.

But I really do think it is important that he is confined to an area on your property, for his own safety, especially if he is that carefree about running out onto the main road.
