Default Barking

Hi, new here and just wanted some input. My GSD puppy (5 months) is a sweetheart. As soon as I take her outside she looks around ON PURPOSE and even if she sees someone a block away, she starts barking, hackles go up, she lunges toward that direction, etc. I have to pull her to me and stand in front of her and do all sorts of things to distract her. She does the same when she sees another dog. I got her from the breeder when she was 3 1/2 months old. She lived with other puppies and adult German Shepherd Dogs. What IS her problem. Her name is Fergie

Smile Barking

I'd hazard a guess and say that Fergie is protecting either you or what she views to be as her territory. She's young enough that you can train her out of this though. Carry a spray bottle or normal bottle of water and soak her face when she starts to bark whilst saying the command "quiet", this will distract her and hopefully stop her from barking...then praise and treat her for being quiet. Good luck
