Default English Cocker Puppy Training Help!

Hi All!

I have had an English Cocker Spaniel for about a month now, he is 3 months old.

He is truly a fantastic pup, very smart, and unbeleivably friendly to people.

He does however have crazy energy levels and I currently have to take him on twice daily walk/runs with command sessions or he is intolerable in my apartment.

I have 3 problems I am working on and would appreciate any assistance.

1. His toilet training is not going so well, I am trying to train him to a combination of pee pad in the bathroom and going outside (I live in a high rise apartment so he must be trained to go on the pee pad during the day when I work) The only way to keep him from peeing anywhere in the apartment is to keep him in his crate which I really hate to do because he is alone and bored during the day time so the last thing I want is to keep him in a crate at night when I get home.

2. I have 2 cats and he insists on chasing them and jumping up at them, usually until they whack him with their claws. Again I really dont like this because I think eventually he will get a nasty scratch.

3. He barks/whines as soon as I leave the room and when I leave the apartment. I have tried several different methods to stop the barking but nothing seems to work! He has a very loud bark and his barking while I am at work has caused us to recieve some nasty notes from an irate neighbour.

Aprecciate any feedback/advice!

On the flip side I cant believe how smart he is! He has already learned sit/stay/drop/shake/come and is quickly getting the hang of crawl and roll over

I just rescued a mutt (chihuahua mix?) and luckily he has been crate trained. I walk him often to make sure he doesn't pee/poop in my condo. Going to introduce him to my girlfriend's cats this friday. I will need the tips on how to train him not to chase them too. Also, he is dealing with separation anxiety when I put him in his crate and leave for work. My dog-owning friends say he will eventually learn and stop barking but I am open to suggestions which will help him get to that state sooner.
