Question Barking in Car

I have a wonderful year old Aussie who feels he needs to bark at everyone passing by outside the car. At a toll booth, construction workers, etc. What is the best way to handle this barking?
He rides calmly otherwise. Also, please note that he has always been reserved around people and was afraid of everything when we got him at 9 weeks. He has come a long way and this seems to be the only remaining problem.

Hi there,

you will need to get your dog desensitized to the things that happen outside the car.
Does he only bark at people? Does he bark when you are driving or when you stop at traffic light/car parks etc?
Does he calm down after a while a bark the whole time?
Do you tell him off for barking?
Does he bark at lot at home?

Thanks
