Dobermans are large breeds so they tend to mature a bit slower.
My vet recommended that I keep my dogs on puppy food until they are at least 18 months old, preferably 24.
He also suggested feeding 25% less than what the package instructions say to keep them on the leaner side.
A big study that was recently released (from Purina) showed that all signs of aging (arthritis, grey hair, slow movements, stiffness, eye problems etc) can be slowed down if your dog is not only not overweight, but in fact slightly slimmer than slim.
Obviously you shouldn't starve your dog, but keep her on the slimmer side.
It also depends on the puppy food you give her. Some puppy foods are very rich (to help the young bones develop properly) and once your dog is 1 year she might not need it and you can switch her to a maintanance diet (adult food).
Feeding three times a day is a good idea and recommend continuing to do so.
