Default It's the Food, Stupid! Or So Says Sunna.

I should probably wait a bit longer, but I am amazed. After discovering the Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble website, I printed out the 24 six-star foods and went to a speciality shop. There I bought three different brands in small sizes.

The first one, only a sample-size bag, was tried first. Sunna devoured the food. I folded up the rest of the bag and foolishly left it on top of her food bin. 3:30 this morning, she got me downstairs to find the bag ripped apart on the floor and no food! She'd brought me down for water. Not sure exactly how much was in that bag (since nothing was left), I didn't let her drink too much -- I could see another dog with bloat. She was fine.

Tonight, I tried another of the bags (leaving the unfinished portion in its bag IN the food bin). The food disappeared!

I knew Sunna was smart. I just didn't realize she was researching her food on the Internet and only wanted the best! Now she is looking for work so she can pay for her food.

So which ones did you try? Sunna must not like grains!

I think you may be right, crazycrayonmom.

Todd pointed out on another post that the right food is subjective. So I don't want to start promoting any particular brands here.

My dogs have tended to live into their teens. Most of them have survived well on the one-star foods. Of course, they've all been liberally supplemented with human food.

My first dog, a GSD, had hip dysplasia from a pup. She couldn't jump at all. But she could run -- oh, how she could run! We had a corner house. The backyard paralleled a commuter route. She would race the cars from one end of the yard to the other, often beating them. Freya had a stroke at 13 and was euthanized two years later, when one of her rear legs snapped. My vet warned me to keep her on the lean side and I did. I think that is more important than what particular brand they eat -- thin, but not too thin.

crazycrayonmom,

If you want to know the brands, please send me a private post, so I can respond privately. As I said, I don't want to turn this into a "food fight."
