Smile Dog deafness

I think my new Australian Cattle Dog pup has a hearing problem. She is just 8 weeks old and was the runt of the litter. She appears to ignore most sounds. I am not sure if she hears or just sees us talking to her.

Hi there and thank you for your email.

Deafness is a hereditary problem common in some breeds.
At eight weeks i would give your puppy some time to make sure she is truely deaf and not just ignoring things and being stubborn.

There is a test called a B.A.E.R, a brain auditory evoked response test that can be used to test if your puppy truely is deaf.

Let me know if things improve or you get the test run on your puppy.

Kind regards

Todd Field
