Default Bone meal

Hi,

Bone meal is a mixture of crushed and coarsely ground bones. Its main use is as a fertilizer for plants, but has been used in animal diets as a source of phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca). The problem is that the composition of bone meal is variable and you would need to look on the label of the product to find out how much of each mineral was in there. Also bone meal can contain toxic heavy metals, so personally I think its better to not use it in diets.

Commercial diets that are 'AFFCO' tested have undergone vigorous trials to ensure they are nutritionally balanced and safe for animals. These foods are the easiest way to feed your cat/dog and know that they are getting everything they need. I recommend diets that are described as 'complete and balanced' and pass the AFFCO standards.

If you really they want to try homemade meals, you should have a animal nutritionist formulate it for you as it is essential that your dog gets all the vitamins and minerals that they need, and in the right amounts.

Hope this is helpful
Kate
