Question Peeing on any bed or just laying around

Kora is a blue heeler border collie mix and is 3 months old. She has a bed in the garage and access to the yard through the dog door. She is peeing on her beds whether they are inside or outside. Last night we were on the deck and she was asleep on her bed on the deck. When she got up she had urinated on the bed. She was only 10 feet from the grass. What is up with this behavior? How do I get her to understand that the bed is not the place to pee? Any help?

Are you able to get the urine smell out of her beds? If she can smell it, she thinks that is the proper place to pee. Read the ebook on housebreaking. Right now, you are giving her universal access to everything. I think Kora needs to start at step one, where she is confined except when you are feeding, exercising, playing with her. After these activities (and after sleeping), she should be taken out to the toilet area and praised when she finally comes through. Her sleeping area should be confined and just large enough for her to turn around.

Truly, CookMich, Kora doesn't like sleeping on a wet bed. She just doesn't understand where she should go. She is still a puppy and is trying to do the right thing -- pee where she peed before!

Most important: the bed cannot smell of urine. You may have to buy a new bed (at this point, she should only have one) to ensure it doesn't smell. Or someone else on the forum may know a way to clean the old beds.

Hope this helps you some.

Thank you for the feedback. I have removed all of the extra beds except the one in the garage and I have washed them. I am also taking her to the yard often and giving her a treat when she goes in the yard. I will try your other suggestions also. Thanks so much!

Hi, cookmich,

How's Kora doing with her peeing? Has she figured out she only does it outside yet?

Default Getting Better

Kora is doing much better and is not peeing on her bed in the garage. I have given her one other bed on the deck and so far she has not peed on it. Thanks for the advice.
