Unhappy House Training a Lhasa Mix

Hi There,

I have a 3 1/2 month old Lhasa mix that i have had for about a month or so now and i have been paper training her. This has proven very difficult after trying ever possible thing and I have read every possilbe post by other members and followed the method outlined but she still goes in the house. For the last week or so we have made progress though as she lets me know when she wants to poop but when she wants to pee she just goes in the house. This is very frustrating. Like this morning i she let me know she wanted to go poop and as soon i brought her back in peed in the house and she does this all the time. I have to keep guessing when she wants to pee and taking her then and She goes on command most of the time.

My dughters and i love her dearly but i NEED help.

thanks

Hi there and thanks for the post.

I am glad you have read through the other posts as they usually cover most things. So a few questions first?

How often and when do you take her out? I prefer to take them out every hour or so to the same spot every time. As well as this make sure you take her out before and after play and after feeding, as well as first thing in the morning and last thing at night. The best way to prevent accidents is to take them out before they pop

I would also make sure you are using the urine mess to put in her toilet spot. It may even be a good idea to give her separate pooing and peeing spots, but make sure to use the mess. And also make sure you use a good deodouriser like SOX or Odourex as smell is very very important.

Now after she has pooed make sure you wait with her, try and play some games. By waiting she may get the idea and end up going.

Think about putting in a dog door as this will give her the freedom to choose when she goes.

If you catch her making a mess remember to growl at her and carry her over to her toilet spot. Once she gets there praise her a lot.

Some other ideas are to close the door so she can't get to where she needs to go. And try feeding her near the spot she goes as this will often stop the problem.

Let me know how things go and if i can help anymore

Todd
