Unhappy Stubborn Doxxy

We have a 9 month old doxxy who insists on not asking to go out to do his business but instead hides in a corner or behind the couch and leaves us a deposit. We take him out right away when he wakes up and usually every half hour or so also shortly after he eats. We also have an 8 year old chihuahua who has never had a problem doing it the right way. But the yungster just does not get it. Any suggestions at all for us? Our yard is not fenced so we always take them out on a leash and totally praise them when they go. Please help!

Try to crate train your dog. After he eats / plays, let him rest in the crate. After he wakes up, take him outside.
