Sunna

Here is a picture of Sunna. Probably could have made it larger, but this is my first attempt to upload to this forum.

She actually looked a lot cuter when I started to take the picture, but she seems to see the camera and become serious.

Oh My! Sunna is a beautiful Shepherd!! For some reason, I though she was a small dog...

I am so happy to learn that she is gaining confidence (even if it seems like a baby step) and I hope she knows that THIS IS HER PERMANENT HOME

She is one lucky dog to have such a patient and dedicated parent!

But she is a small dog for a German Shepherd! Only 21" at the withers. Zoey was oversize, 26". When I first saw Sunna, she looked like a puppy. Of course, now she looks the proper size.

She is slowly gaining confidence and I can wait all the time it takes. Right now, I think she's decided the handing over of the leash means a new home. That is what Kate did -- she handed me Sunna on her leash. So I think lots of transfers of control will finally convince her the move is over.

Something strange happened at my mother's house. We've been clearing it out and Sunna and I went over to take the last few items (from a very empty house). Since they were bulky objects, I left her in the house while I moved everything into the car. Now, I may be reading something that isn't there, but when I returned to the house, she was lying there, seemingly rather resigned. I wonder if she "helped" clear out the house when her first family was foreclosed on? Then I picked up the leash, walked out with her, locked the door, and went back to her house.

I am not a native English speaker as you know so I don't quite understand what you said: she was lying there, seemingly rather resigned...

However, I think it is rather a good sign that she wasn't nerveously walking around or panting when you returned to her. She was rather relaxed and indifferent, right?

If that is what you meant, she now trusts you and is willing to go with a flow.

Or, she might have felt your inner feeling, which I would imagine be stressful to get rid of your mother's stuff

Either way, it is clear that Sunna now knows where she belongs to

Your point is well-taken. I saw her as lying there thinking "Well, I've been through this before," since her first owners lost their house to foreclosure. But you are correct: even though I left her in an empty house, taking the last pieces out to the car, she didn't worry that she was being deserted, she expected me back.

She has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. She is much more pushy. She also throws her chew bones around and pounces on them. Both signs of feeling at home!
