CAPTIVE BRED MARINES

When it comes to the long-term success of a marine aquarium, you need to understand the value of managing marine resources. Aqua-cultured, farm-bred, and tank-bred life is an essential part of your success. Today, we see a huge step forward in marine culture fish, along with fish farming that make it easier to breed and raise a number of marine fish species. Years ago, the price of tank-bred fish was outrageous but today, the prices are far more reasonable.

You will discover a wide variety of captive bred fish that will push your aquarium to the limits. The following are some options to think about when looking for captive bred fish:

  • Marine Fish – A number of fish exist that would be great choices such as Clownfish, Gobies, Angelfish, and Pseudochromis. These fish are all great choices, very hardy and they do not stress easily, and adjust to water conditions quite well. Because of this, these marine fish actually help reduce the possibility of disease or infection in the tank. Since these fish are already accustomed to aquarium life, they are good eaters.
  • Freshwater Fish – For farm-bred fish, these typically come from the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Most species are hardy, they stress little, and adjust to a new aquarium without much problem, again reducing chance of disease or infection.
  • Aqua-Cultured Corals – These live corals are actually fragments from larger coral colonies. Called “seed” fragments, they will permanently affix to the tank, eventually growing into an adult coral. Live coral reduces the risk of disease, adjust easily to a new home, and are wonderfully colorful.

Some of the most popular captive bred marine life include:

  • Angelfish
  • Cardinalfish
  • Clam
  • Clownfish
  • Dottyback
  • Goby
  • Jacks
  • Seahorse
  • Shrimp
  • Snapper
