Secrets to Dog Training Testimonials

Testimonial"Hi Daniel, It is with great pleasure that I am writing this for SecretsToDogTraining.com. Secrets to Dog Training Training was great! We have a crossed breed Poodle/Terrier and training him is extremely important to us since we live in high rise apartment. SitStayFetch's training methods are positive and very proactive. Sumo, our pup, is doing great! At only 5 months old he sits, lies down, heals, stays, and even comes most of the time. We can not expect too much at his age but he is getting better everyday. SitStayFetch continues to provide support through email which we feel is a priceless resource."

Secrets to Dog Training: Consultation

Hi Daniel,

I have a 3 1/2 month old shepherd. She is ok with the collar, but she wants to chew the leash and she will walk a few then sit down. How do I get her to stop chewing on the leash and not sit down?

Thank you!

Jim

Secrets to Dog Training Reply:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your email regarding your puppy. It's great that you are already teaching your pup how to walk on leash, however it is important that you do not over exercise her. She is quite young and if she is walked too far at a young age, she may develop bone and joint problems later in life.

It can take quite a bit of encouragement to get some dogs to start walking on leash. The first step will be allowing your pup to get used to wearing the leash in the first place. I recommend that you coat your dog's leash in an aversive substance to prevent her from chewing on the leash. Lemon juice, aloe vera gel, bitter apple spray or cayenne pepper have all been known to discourage chewing or licking of items.

Next, I recommend you attach the leash and let your pup wander around your home whilst wearing it. I do not recommend however that you leave your pup on her own, as the leash may get caught on something.

After your pup has worn the leash around your house a few times, you should attach a long leash to her, then after a few minutes, quietly approach her and pick the end of the leash up in your hand. You should then encourage her to follow you out the door. Resist tugging on the leash - you should keep it as loose as possible. As soon as you start pulling on the leash, she will start pulling back to keep her balance.

If your pup is not keen to follow you out the door, you should hold up a treat in your hand to further encourage her. Hold the treats by your side, and give her one every few minutes. As she gradually gets used to following you on the leash, you should cut back on the number of treats, and just use your voice to spur her along.

I hope this helps Jim. Good luck and please let me know how you progress.

"Secrets to Dog Training - STOP Dog Behavior Problems!"

Hi, my name’s Daniel Stevens, I’m the creator of Secrets to Dog Training.

I've been a professional dog trainer for well over 20 years, and in that time I've helped thousands of dog owners just like you to get the friendly, well behaved, slipper fetching, best pal they always wanted.

But it didn't start out that way. I've always loved dogs, some things never change. But when I first started my professional dog training career I relied on the so-called 'best practices' when it came to dog behavior training. It was only when I heard people tell me over and over again that they just weren't seeing results that I started to question the old accepted wisdom. So I started a journey, a quest to search out the best, most effective, techniques, tips, and tricks that really work.

And that's how I came up with Secrets to Dog Training. Year after year I found new techniques that achieved the results I wanted. Eventually I had a whole book worth of great resources: Secrets to Dog training...

So, if you want to:

  • TRAIN your dog effectively
  • CARE for your dog the way they deserve
  • UNDERSTAND just why your dog behaves the way they do
  • NURTURE a life-long relationship with your dog that you'll cherish

Then Secrets to Dog Training is just what you've been looking for!
